Protect civil servants, safeguard national security, veterans care
To: Sen. Middleton, Rep. Vasut, Sen. Cornyn, Pres. Trump, Gov. Abbott, Rep. Green, Lt. Gov. Patrick, Sen. Cruz

National security and veterans care could be jeopardized by the recent executive order reclassifying career government employees as "policymakers" who can be dismissed at will. Federal workers play a vital role in areas like determining lawfulness of orders at the Pentagon, processing benefits claims at the VA, and providing essential support functions across agencies. Nearly a third of the federal workforce are veterans themselves. Replacing experienced civil servants with political operatives risks losing invaluable expertise on complex global dynamics, veterans' healthcare needs, and the specialized knowledge required for effective governance. Gutting the civil service in this manner undermines principles of professional public service and nonpartisan policymaking. Protecting our dedicated federal workforce is crucial to upholding national interests and fulfilling our sacred obligation to those who served. This overreach threatens to destabilize vital government operations and the delivery of earned services to our nation's veterans.
