I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposal to close the U.S. Department of Education. As an advocate for educational equity and quality, I believe that eliminating this crucial department would significantly harm students, teachers, and communities across the country.
The Department of Education plays a vital role in ensuring that every student, regardless of their background, has access to a quality education. It oversees programs that support low-income students, provides funding for special education, and enforces civil rights protections in schools. Its work helps level the playing field and supports the continued improvement of our nation's educational system.
Without the Department of Education, the disparities in our educational system would only widen, and critical services would be lost, leaving vulnerable students at even greater risk. Closing this department would also undermine the ability to address important issues such as college affordability, student loan debt, and educational access in underserved areas.
I urge you to reconsider this proposal and instead work toward strengthening our education system to ensure that every student can succeed.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
