Published reports indicate the president-elect is set on acquiring Greenland and the Panama Canal using force if necessary. It seems to me that Mr. Trump is doing the bidding of Vladimir Putin who does not like the current military posture or U.S. military installations in Greenland. Russian ships are currently barred from passage through the Panama Canal due to international sanctions. It is believed Mr. Putin would prefer the U.S. withdraw from Greenland and that Panama ignore our international treaty obligations and allow Russian ships passage through the canal. Only if you look at Trumps wild assertions through the eyes of Putin does this proposal be explained. This is all the more reason it should not be considered and must not take up time or resources while being discussed in the public forum. Obviously the very idea of annexing Greenland, the Panama Canal or even Canada is absurd and would never be entertained. Furthermore, not a single penny should be authorized for such pursuits. I doubt that legislation concerning an act of war or authorization for annexation would ever be considered in Congress, but should it reach a vote in committee or on the floor, you must vote ‘no’ to defeat the measure.
