Maintain USAID's critical global development and humanitarian mission

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Wagner

From: A constituent in Saint Louis, MO

February 5

The decision to put nearly all USAID employees on administrative leave and halt foreign aid programs is deeply concerning. USAID plays a vital role in promoting global development, providing humanitarian assistance, and advancing American interests around the world. Abruptly disrupting these efforts will have severe consequences for vulnerable populations, undermine years of progress, and damage America's reputation as a leader in international cooperation. USAID's work is crucial for addressing poverty, food insecurity, global health crises, and environmental challenges that transcend borders. Abandoning these efforts not only threatens the well-being of millions but also compromises regional stability and security. Furthermore, many USAID programs directly support American economic and strategic interests by fostering stable, prosperous partners and countering the influence of adversaries. Instead of dismantling this essential agency, the administration should recognize the immense value USAID provides and ensure it has the resources and workforce to fulfill its critical mission. Continuing to fund and staff USAID's programs is not only the ethical course of action but also serves America's long-term interests. I urge you to take immediate steps to reverse this harmful decision and reaffirm America's commitment to international development and humanitarian assistance.
