Your acceptance of hydraulic fracturing “fracking” I understand is a strategic turnabout to avoid losing states like PA. While it may make for wise campaign strategy, it’s also dangerous.
I encourage you to check out the Compendium of Scientific, Medical, and Media Findings Demonstrating Risks and Harms of Fracking and Associated Gas and Oil Infrastructure, Ninth Edition, October 19, 2023, at the website concernedhealthny.com. This project by Concerned Health Professionals of New York, a program of the Science and Environmental Health Network, and Physicians for Social Responsibility is crucial reading in understanding fracking’s immense harms.
I know a fracking ban is not a practical or pragmatic public policy initiative and would likely end in legal challenges that successfully overturned the ban, but you should at least publicly recognize fracking as the enormous environmental and public health threat that it is and promise to pursue ending federal subsidies for it, which would in effect essentially end its financial viability.
You’re losing important voters in Southwest PA and Southeast OH up and down the Ohio River Valley (where I live) with your current stance. I’ve been in the leadership of the climate & environmental nonprofit Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action for nine years and worked extensively in related spaces in the Mid-Ohio River Valley for all that time. Please don’t maintain such unwavering commitment to continued sacrificing of our communities in an election year where it’s so crucial for you to win.
