Reforming the Supreme Court is crucial to protecting our democracy and the rule of law. The bold proposals outlined by President Biden are necessary steps to restore trust in this vital institution. Establishing term limits for Supreme Court Justices would ensure the Court's membership evolves over time, reducing the chance of any single President exerting outsized, generational influence. A binding code of conduct with enforceable ethics rules is also long overdue – Justices should be held to the highest standards of integrity. Most significantly, amending the Constitution to clearly state that no President is above the law would reinforce the fundamental principle that no one, not even our highest elected leader, is immune from accountability for criminal acts. This crisis of confidence in democratic norms demands decisive action. I urge swift passage of these common-sense reforms to preserve the independence, credibility and public faith in the Supreme Court.
