Please open the government people are hurting

To: Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock

From: A constituent in Woodstock, GA

November 5

Today marks Day 36 of the Republican government shutdown (surpassing their last record), and the harm continues to deepen for millions of Americans — including thousands of dedicated federal workers and families across Georgia. I appreciate your leadership in standing strong for our values, but I urge you to act with urgency and clarity: We need a continuing resolution (CR) that fully funds the entire federal government and protects all federal workers ,not just select groups. Protection for people’s healthcare and prevention. There is growing concern that Congress attempts to pass more split-pay legislation ,funding military personnel and certain high-visibility departments while excluding civil servants furloughed, public health workers, and essential support agencies. This cannot happen. All federal workers serve the people. All deserve to be paid. We cannot divide the federal workforce into “worthy” and “expendable.” Civil servants across agencies have kept this country running for decades — including during crises. Leaving them out of pay legislation is both morally wrong and deeply harmful. On top of this, there is also the health care crisis and food security. I understand and support the need to maintain or expand subsidies, but there is a real deadline. The damage will already be done premiums are out. Premiums are being locked in right now for open enrollment. The very people who rely on these subsidies, working families, gov workers, retirees, will suffer the consequences immediately. Meanwhile, agencies like the CDC are being hollowed out in silence. Prevention efforts are being paused, long-term initiatives disrupted, and valuable staff demoralized or furloughed. This is not political maneuvering — it is institutional collapse. I ask you to take the following actions: • Do not vote for partial or split funding bills for federal workers. They will only deepen division and weaken the federal workforce. • Reject efforts to pit federal workers against each other. We all serve the same nation. • Publicly support and vote for a clean, full CR that protects health, safety, and stability across the board. • Speak to the urgency of the healthcare premium deadline and ensure families are not priced out due to delay. • Protect prevention and public health infrastructure. CDC, HHS, NIH, and other agencies are critical — and increasingly vulnerable. • Stay unified. The House is failing the American people. We need the Senate to hold the line and lead. It’s a waste of money that there is nothing to bring the house back and do their job. Every day this shutdown continues, the damage compounds. Morale collapses, health care becomes less affordable, and the people lose more trust. This is not policy negotiation — it is real life. And it’s hurting those who’ve committed their lives to public service. Please act now to stop this. We are counting on your leadership.
