Uphold Constitutional Principles and Reject Partisan Influence on the Court

To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Joyce

From: A constituent in Willoughby, OH

December 9

I am writing to express my deep concern about the Supreme Court's recent decision to decline hearing the Texas book ban appeal, allowing local officials to remove books from public libraries. This decision represents a troubling pattern of partisan rulings that prioritize ideology over constitutional principles and the rule of law. The current conservative majority on the Supreme Court appears to be consistently ruling along partisan lines rather than upholding their oaths of office to serve as impartial arbiters of the Constitution. When justices allow their personal political preferences to influence decisions on fundamental rights like access to information in public libraries, they undermine the legitimacy of the entire judicial system. This pattern extends beyond book bans. The influence of dark money in our political system has already corrupted our democracy, and we need serious campaign finance reforms to restore public trust. Instead, recent Court decisions have made the problem worse by opening the floodgates to unlimited political spending. The American people deserve a judiciary that protects their interests, not one that serves wealthy donors and partisan interests. I urge you to use your position to advocate for judicial accountability and transparency. Support legislation that would establish enforceable ethics standards for Supreme Court justices, including requirements for financial disclosure and recusal when conflicts of interest exist. Co-sponsor bills that would strengthen campaign finance laws and reduce the influence of dark money in our elections. The Supreme Court's credibility depends on its commitment to impartial justice. When justices violate their oaths by allowing partisan considerations to drive their decisions, Congress has both the authority and the responsibility to act. I am counting on you to stand up for the rule of law and demand that our highest court return to its constitutional role as a nonpartisan guardian of our rights and freedoms.
