Oppose Trump Nominees!

To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Arlington, VA

February 5

The recent slate of Cabinet nominees put forward by the president-elect raises significant concerns about qualifications and allegiance to constitutional principles over partisan loyalty. Individuals like Robert F. Kennedy for Health and Human Services, who advocates firing hundreds of senior officials, and Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, who has been highly critical of supporting Ukraine, appear more focused on carrying out the president's personal agenda rather than upholding their respective agencies' core missions. Similarly, nominees like Russell Vought for OMB Director, Linda McMahon for Education Secretary, and Elise Stefanik for UN Ambassador seem chosen primarily for their fealty to the president over substantive experience or expertise relevant to their prospective roles. Such loyalist appointments threaten to undermine long-standing norms of a professional, non-partisan civil service dedicated to the public good. I urge you to rigorously vet these nominees and reject those who lack proper qualifications or whose extreme ideological views could enable the administration to abuse its authority and erode vital institutional checks and balances. Safeguarding democratic governance and the rule of law must take precedence over rewarding partisan allies with powerful positions they are unfit to hold. The American people deserve Cabinet members committed to faithfully executing the laws and upholding their oath of office.
