Reject bill threatening civil liberties, nonprofits without due process

The Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, also known as H.R. 9495, poses a grave threat to civil liberties and democratic norms by granting the Treasury Department unchecked authority to strip nonprofits of their tax-exempt status without due process or the need to provide any evidence or justification. Such unilateral power concentrated in the executive branch undermines fundamental American principles of free speech, free association, and checks and balances on government overreach. While the admirable goal of supporting American hostages is laudable, attaching it to this alarmingly undemocratic measure appears to be a cynical ploy to force its passage. I urge you to reject this bill and safeguard the constitutional rights that make America a free society. Subjecting lawful nonprofits and activists to financial ruination based solely on unsubstantiated accusations from the administration is antithetical to our nation's values.
