I am writing as your constituent to express serious concerns regarding executive overreach during government shutdowns and proposed healthcare cuts.
First, I urge you to ensure clear statutory protections exist preventing the executive branch from using government shutdowns to circumvent civil service protections and terminate federal employees. The career civil service provides continuity, expertise, and protection from political interference. Using a shutdown—caused by lapsed appropriations—to justify firing government workers would dangerously erode these protections and undermine the professional, nonpartisan foundation of our federal workforce.
Second, I strongly oppose cutting healthcare programs as a condition for continuing government operations. Healthcare access is fundamental to millions of Americans, including seniors, low-income families, children, veterans, and people with disabilities who depend on Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs. Healthcare should never be held hostage to budget negotiations or used as a bargaining chip.
Our nation faces real challenges requiring thoughtful, bipartisan solutions—not manufactured crises threatening federal workers’ livelihoods and vulnerable Americans’ health. I respectfully ask that you:
1. Support legislation explicitly protecting federal employees from termination during funding lapses and ensure all employees are paid in accordance with the Law passed under the previous Trump presidency;
2. Oppose budget proposals cutting healthcare programs; and
3. Work across the aisle to pass appropriations bills that fund our government responsibly without harmful conditions
