Department of Education
To: Rep. Greene
From: A constituent in La Fayette, GA
November 21
There are compelling reasons not to abolish the Department of Education entirely. While reforms may be needed, the Department plays a vital role in ensuring equal access to quality education for all students across the nation. Eliminating it could disrupt key programs and services that support underserved communities, students with disabilities, and initiatives promoting academic achievement. A measured approach focusing on streamlining bureaucracy, reducing overreach, and empowering states and local districts may be more constructive than complete abolition. The federal government has a responsibility to safeguard educational opportunities and civil rights protections for all children. Any restructuring should prioritize student needs while respecting state autonomy in curriculum decisions. A balanced solution preserving essential functions while granting appropriate flexibility merits serious consideration.
