Urgent action is needed to stop the Trump administration and Elon Musk's companies from undermining federal agencies and circumventing laws through rampant executive overreach. As reported by The New York Times, Trump has effectively nullified laws by ordering agencies to defy legal constraints, moved to shut down congressionally-created agencies, and arbitrarily fired officials in violation of legal protections. Simultaneously, Musk's companies like Twitter have enabled the spread of misinformation and hate speech, eroding democratic institutions. This onslaught represents a direct threat to the rule of law and system of checks and balances. Congress must use its oversight powers to investigate these abuses of power and take immediate steps to rein in the executive branch's defiance of its constitutional role. Legislation is urgently needed to reinforce constraints on presidential authority and prevent further erosion of government accountability and transparency. The American people demand that elected officials uphold their oaths to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Inaction will only enable this accelerating crisis and endanger our democracy itself.
