Reject Kash Patel's nomination as FBI Director, preserve independence

To: Sen. Hagerty, Sen. Blackburn

From: A constituent in Nolensville, TN

January 10

I urge you to reject the nomination of Kash Patel as Director of the FBI. Patel's longstanding ties to Former President Trump and his efforts to undermine investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election are highly concerning. His track record demonstrates a willingness to disregard rules and procedures, potentially endangering lives as seen in the hostage rescue incident in Nigeria. Furthermore, Patel has openly threatened to weaponize the FBI against President Biden, Hunter Biden, the media, and political opponents - turning it into a tool for repression rather than upholding justice. Installing someone like Patel at the helm of the FBI would severely erode its independence and integrity. It risks resurrecting the dark era of J. Edgar Hoover when the bureau was used for unchecked surveillance and intimidation of dissidents. Patel's confirmation would gravely undermine faith in federal law enforcement and set a disturbing precedent of political forces co-opting agencies meant to operate impartially. For the sake of preserving democratic norms and the rule of law, I implore you to block this dangerous nomination that imperils constitutional freedoms and civil liberties. The nation's interests are better served by an FBI Director committed to upholding justice without partisan bias or authoritarian overreach.
