An Open Letter
To: Sen. McCormick
From: A constituent in Industry, PA
January 6
I am writing to express my deep concern about the possibility of someone who has engaged in or supported acts of insurrection assuming or holding the office of President of the United States. Such an outcome would not only undermine the integrity of our democracy but also contravene the principles upon which our nation was founded.
The U.S. Constitution, specifically Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, explicitly prohibits individuals who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States from holding public office. This provision was designed to safeguard our democracy and ensure that those who have acted against our nation’s interests are not entrusted with its highest positions of power.
Allowing someone with a history of insurrectionist behavior to become president would set a dangerous precedent, signaling that attempts to undermine our democracy can go unpunished. It would erode public trust in our institutions and weaken the rule of law that forms the foundation of our country.
As a member of Congress, you have a solemn duty to uphold the Constitution and protect the democratic principles that sustain our republic. I urge you to use your voice and your vote to ensure that the qualifications for holding public office, as outlined in the Constitution, are rigorously upheld.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I trust that you will act in the best interests of our nation and its future.
