Republicans are set to take control of the House with a slim majority of 219-215.
Speaker Mike Johnson faces heavy criticism from all corners, even with endorsements from Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has already signaled he won’t support Johnson, and it's unclear whether the Speaker can secure enough votes from within his own party to maintain control.
Johnson’s recent actions have made it abundantly clear that Democrats cannot trust him. Last month, he blocked critical funding for pediatric cancer research and opposed measures to combat revenge porn, target junk fees, and impose restrictions on investment in China that would have hurt Musk’s profits.
Democrats cannot afford to prop up a Speaker who has shown such a lack of regard for bipartisan cooperation, nor can we afford to perpetuate the dysfunction in the House.
We must send a clear message: let Republicans clean up their own mess unless they are willing to make real, substantive concessions about how they plan to run the House. This is a moment to hold them accountable and ensure that the House works for the American people, not just for special interests and extreme factions of the Republican Party.
Please stand firm and demand real accountability from Speaker Johnson and the GOP leadership. You owe it to the American people to take a strong stance on this issue.
