Tell constituents what Trumps crimes you care about.

To: Sen. Ernst, Rep. Nunn, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Des Moines, IA

October 27

I’m writing to ask for a little clarification—purely for planning purposes. As a citizen who still believes in that quaint relic known as the Constitution, I find myself wondering which of President Trump’s alleged or proven crimes, betrayals, and tantrums actually move you. Since you’ve watched him try to overturn elections, obstruct justice, hoard classified documents, threaten judges, and openly fantasize about suspending the Constitution—all without visible outrage on your part—it’s getting hard to tell where your red lines are. If none of this counts as “serious,” could you kindly publish a short list of offenses that do matter? For instance: • Is selling state secrets a no-go, or is that still up for debate? • Does attempting a coup reach your “mild concern” threshold, or are you waiting for something with better production value? • Would declaring himself King finally prompt a press release, or would that depend on polling? It would save us both time if I knew in advance which crimes you’re fine with, so I don’t waste energy getting hopeful every time he tramples another law or institution. Then I can simply focus my civic pleading on the few violations you still recognize as betrayals rather than “policy differences.” Until then, I’ll keep checking the headlines with the grim curiosity of someone watching a neighbor slowly set fire to their own house—wondering if the fire department has a calendar marked “respond when politically convenient.” A constituent waiting to find out what crimes actually count.
