The decision to undergo any medical procedure, including abortion, should ultimately be a private matter between a patient and their licensed healthcare provider. Misoprostol and other abortion-inducing drugs should remain a legal option for Hoosier patients, and the priority should be to protect the rights of the pregnant patient and her future fertility. Imposing excessive restrictions or requiring invasive disclosures of personal circumstances creates unnecessary barriers and undermines the physician-patient relationship. As lawmakers, it is imperative to prioritize personal freedom and protect access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare services, including medication abortion. Banning misoprostol and abortion-inducing drugs is the wrong move for Indiana, violating constitutional rights and jeopardizing maternal health outcomes. I urge you to reconsider this measure and instead focus efforts on expanding access to vital resources that empower women to make informed choices about their reproductive futures.
