Since their conception, obscenity laws have been used as a bludgeon against disfavored groups such as reproductive rights groups, civil rights organizations, sex workers, authors, women's rights groups, and racial justice organizations. They are antiquated remnants of a darker time in history that still are in effect today. As a constituent, I am formally calling for the repeal of obscenity laws. We have measures in place to protect against exploitation and abuse without the need to censor. Obscenity laws are blank checks for nationalists, Christian fascists, supremacists, and the rich who seek to punish 'undesireables' for expressing themselves. Repealing these laws would free up more resources for police to stop abuse and exploitation. Thank you.
