Oppose U.S. Intelligence Expansion and Any Efforts to Seize Control of Greenland
To: Sen. Warren, Sen. Markey, Rep. Neal
From: A constituent in Westfield, MA
May 7
I’m writing with deep concern regarding reports from The Wall Street Journal that the United States is ramping up intelligence operations in Greenland, allegedly to support former President Donald Trump’s renewed interest in acquiring the island. If true, this is not only an abuse of surveillance and intelligence resources—it is a violation of our values and a troubling echo of colonial thinking.
Greenland is not a prize to be claimed. It is the home of Indigenous communities with a rich culture, history, and autonomy. The idea of “taking” Greenland—whether through purchase, pressure, or covert influence—is not just unrealistic. It is unethical. It reflects a worldview that ignores the rights of other peoples and continues a long pattern of imperialistic behavior that we, as a country, should be working to dismantle—not perpetuate.
Furthermore, the use of U.S. intelligence assets to support such a goal—especially when linked to the ambitions of a private citizen like Donald Trump—is a gross misuse of power. Intelligence operations must be grounded in public safety and democratic oversight, not private agendas or geopolitical land grabs.
I urge you to:
1. Publicly reject any attempt by the U.S. to acquire or exert control over Greenland.
2. Demand full transparency and accountability regarding U.S. intelligence activity on the island.
3. Protect the sovereignty and self-determination of the Greenlandic people.
4. Investigate and prevent the use of federal surveillance resources for personal or political gain.
We cannot afford to quietly enable this kind of behavior. The United States must lead with integrity—not entitlement.
Thank you for standing up for democracy, justice, and responsible governance.
