properly funded public education is important for your constituents

To: Sen. Schumer, Rep. Stefanik, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in Plattsburgh, NY

February 5

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the President’s proposal to eliminate the Department of Education. The Department of Education plays a critical role in ensuring equal access to quality education, providing essential funding, and upholding educational standards that benefit communities across the country. Without it, I fear that disparities in education will widen, particularly for underserved students who rely on federal support and resources – and not just for education, but also school meals that are federally subsidized! Think of how many children will go hungry because they can’t get breakfast and lunch at school, which is sometimes the only time they eat. I know this because I used to work in poor, rural school district. That is not to say that I am against more school choice, but to make that the ONLY choice will be detrimental to our communities and our nation’s future. Properly funded public education is a critical necessity. I urge you to oppose this order and advocate for policies that strengthen, rather than dismantle, our education system. Investing in education is investing in the future of our country, and I hope you will consider the long-term impacts this decision could have on the students and families who are your constituents.
