An Open Letter
To: Gov. Evers
From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI
February 5
The Trump administration's plan to abolish the Department of Education through executive action and legislation like H.R. 899 is a direct assault on public education and the students, teachers, and families it serves. Eliminating the department would slash federal funding for public schools, end support for students with disabilities, dismantle civil rights protections in education, and abolish federal student loan programs. This reckless dismantling would only benefit extremists seeking to privatize education at the expense of America's children and their fundamental right to quality public education. I urge you to vigorously oppose any efforts, executive or legislative, to defund or abolish the Department of Education. Protecting this vital agency must be a top priority to safeguard educational opportunity and uphold our nation's commitment to public education for all.
