I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to take immediate action to prevent the devastating rise in health care premiums that threatens the well-being of millions of Americans.
In 2025, health insurance premiums are rising at alarming rates:
• ACA Marketplace premiums are increasing by a median of 7%, with some plans seeing hikes of up to 51%.
• If Congress fails to extend the enhanced ACA subsidies, premiums could rise by 75% or more, with rural Americans facing increases of up to 90%.
• Federal employees will see an average 13.5% increase in their premiums—the largest in over a decade. For example, a family plan under Blue Cross Blue Shield Standard will cost $53.97 more per paycheck, totaling over $1,400 annually.
These increases are not just numbers—they represent a life-or-death decision for many Americans.
I know this firsthand. Last year I myself started battling with mental health issues, I couldn’t take care of myself, I woke up every day hoping I would just die, and I almost lost my job because of it. After months of fighting our health care system and just holding on I was able to get an appointment, diagnosed, prescribed the medication I need to be a normal functioning human, as well as access to a therapist once a week. If health care premiums had doubled before I was able to seek help with my mental health, I would not be here today. I would not have been be able to afford the care I so desperately needed and would have given up. If premiums double, people like me will be forced to choose between survival and bankruptcy.
I urge you to:
1. Support legislation to extend enhanced ACA subsidies, such as the Health Care Affordability Act.
2. Reject any budget proposals that cut Medicaid or ACA funding.
3. Champion policies that reduce health care costs, including prescription drug pricing reform and hospital billing transparency.
Health care is not a luxury—it is a human right. Please act now to protect the health and lives of your constituents.
Sincerely,
