The role of President of the United States is meant to be the leader of the free world, as we call it. However, Donald Trump’s tenure in office has lead to widespread confusion, anger, and hurt amongst the American people. He has betrayed their trust, their votes, and has sought this office to consolidate power. The federal government is meant to have a series of checks and balances between the branches, and all three branches serve the American people. Yet at every turn, with every executive order, we are bending over backwards to appease this man. We are treating him like a king. Over half of the voter base did not vote for him. And yet he represents us all. He acts like a petulant child that can just throw a tantrum or demand what he wants whenever he wants it. I repeat: he represents us ALL, not just the people that voted for him. And with how his current regime has been proceeding, he represents practically none of my wishes. We are not two teams fighting for a win at the superbowl. This is about people’s lives. It’s not a game. There’s nothing to be “won” by senseless acts of cruelty towards our fellow man. A 30,000 person holding facility in Guantanamo Bay? Really? This is who we are now? The Christian nation who chastises immigrants, praises the wealthy, and relishes in cruelty and greed? Who literally cuts off funding for hundreds, if not thousands, of organizations and businesses with a two page memo? This is not who we are. Donald J. Trump does NOT represent who we are. That is why I write to you today to implore you to introduce articles of impeachment of Donald J. Trump, under Article II, Section 4.4.1 - “Impeachment has been used to remove government officers who abuse the power of the office; conduct themselves in a manner incompatible with the purpose and function of their office; or misuse the office for improper or personal gain.” I believe the president has done all of the aforementioned violations, most notably the abuse of power. He believes he has a blank check to do and say what he wants without fear of any consequences because he faces none. If people do not pledge fealty to him, he targets them. He’s cited using his Justice department to target political opponents. He continues to make enemies with allies, domestic and abroad, for no discernible reason, threatening to take portions of countries. Why? Is he not supposed to be the “president of peace”? I doubt you will take any steps in the call to action, but it needs to be said. This man is out of control, but he is not above the law. He is not a king. He is not a god. He is a man - beholden to the same laws and bounds of you and I. Look deep within yourself and search your soul. Ask yourself “is this truly who we are? Divisive? Angry? Spiteful? Closed off from the world? Please, for the sake of me, my family, my young family members, and people both here and around the world, step forward and step up to these mindless acts of tyranny while you still can.
