Protect Disability Rights - Uphold Section 504 Rehabilitation Act

To: Del. Lewis, Gov. Morrisey, Sen. Takubo

From: A constituent in South Charleston, WV

February 19

The intent behind the Texas v. Becerra lawsuit is an alarming attack on the civil rights of people with disabilities. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 serves as a vital safeguard, ensuring equal access and protection from discrimination for millions of Americans across all facets of society. Invalidating this legislation would unravel decades of progress, leaving already vulnerable individuals subject to blatant marginalization when seeking education, healthcare, housing, and employment opportunities. This regressive action contravenes our nation's ideals of inclusion and justice. I urge you to condemn this misguided legal challenge and take immediate steps to uphold Section 504, recognizing the fundamental human dignity it affords to our friends, families, and neighbors living with disabilities. Their rights cannot be compromised or negotiated away.
