Reconsider school firearm mandate, fund safety and academics

To: Sen. McKell, Rep. Thurston, Gov. Cox

From: A constituent in Provo, UT

February 5

Requiring children to handle firearms in schools is an unwise and potentially dangerous policy. Educational institutions should be focused on providing a safe, supportive learning environment for students. Mandating firearm usage would divert already limited resources away from core academic priorities and compromise school safety. There are more constructive ways to promote responsible citizenship and engage young minds that do not involve introducing weapons into educational settings. I urge you to reconsider this proposal and instead direct funding towards evidence-based school safety measures and initiatives that truly benefit students' well-being and academic success.
