The 14th Amendment, Section 3 states: "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President...who, having previously taken an oath...to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same." This provision bars individuals who have engaged in insurrection from holding federal office, including the presidency. Given the events of January 6th, 2021 where President Trump is accused of inciting an insurrectionist mob to violently storm the Capitol, there are valid constitutional grounds to prevent his future candidacy or service based on Section 3. Our representatives must uphold their oath to the Constitution and apply this provision to disqualify President Trump from being certified as a candidate for any future federal elections he attempts to pursue.
