Congress must resist Trump's reckless attempt to abolish the Department of Education. Terminating the agency would disrupt federal funding for vital K-12 programs supporting low-income schools and students with disabilities. It could also destabilize oversight of higher education laws and student lending. Many of the department's responsibilities are legally mandated, meaning Trump cannot unilaterally eliminate them without Congressional approval. Closing the Education Department would create chaos and undermine equal access to quality education for America's students. Congress has an obligation to reject this destructive proposal that threatens the futures of millions of children and students. I urge my senators and representative to stop acting like cowards by supplicating to Trump and stand up against this dangerous assault on public education.
