Reject Russell Vought's Nomination, Preserve Congressional Authority Over Spending

As Congress prepares to vote on Russell Vought's nomination as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), I urge you to reject his confirmation. Vought's alarming blueprint outlined in the Project 2025 manifesto poses a grave threat to constitutional checks and balances, directly undermining Congressional authority over federal spending. The OMB's role is to implement the budget passed by Congress, not substitute the President's agenda at the expense of duly enacted laws. Yet, Vought openly endorses unilaterally altering congressionally approved funding levels to align with the President's priorities, regardless of their legality. His stated goal of "traumatizing" federal employees and replacing expertise with political loyalists further erodes faith in impartial governance. Vought's disturbing views were evidenced by the Trump administration's illegal attempts to freeze billions in Congressionally appropriated funds, sparking multiple lawsuits. Confirming him would embolden further executive overreach, jeopardizing vital programs and services that millions rely upon. Congress must uphold its Constitutional duty as a co-equal branch of government. Rejecting Vought's nomination is necessary to protect the rule of law, preserve checks and balances, and safeguard the integrity of our democratic institutions. His confirmation would enable the unchecked subversion of Congress' power of the purse, threatening harm to the American people that could reverberate for years.
