Rein in Musk's unaccountable power over public institutions
To: Rep. Clark
From: A constituent in Sudbury, MA
February 3
Elon Musk's involvement in the federal government raises serious concerns about the erosion of democratic norms and checks on private power. As a private citizen and billionaire CEO, Musk wields extraordinary influence over government operations without any public accountability or congressional oversight. His unchecked authority to demand mass resignations, revamp workplace policies, and access sensitive financial systems is tantamount to an unelected corporate takeover of public institutions. This flagrant consolidation of power by a private individual undermines the foundations of our republican system of government. Federal workers and taxpayers deserve transparency about Musk's motives and methods, which currently lack any legal justification. His brash restructuring could jeopardize critical government services and the economic security of millions who rely on programs like Social Security and Medicare. Unconstrained private meddling in core governmental functions is a severe threat to democracy. Stronger safeguards must be implemented to prevent further overreach by Musk and preserve the integrity of public administration for the people's interest, not personal profits. The public has a right to government free from undue corporate capture.
