The Equal Rights Amendment has met all the constitutional requirements for ratification, having been approved by Congress and ratified by 38 states, the three-fourths threshold required. However, concerns over the original 1982 deadline have prevented its certification and publication by the National Archivist, the final step in the amendment process. As supporters argue, the constitutionality of such deadlines has never been resolved by the courts. With broad public support for enshrining gender equality, ratification would represent a landmark achievement before the incoming administration takes regressive action on women's rights. I urge you to direct the National Archivist to publish the Equal Rights Amendment, allowing the legal process to properly assess its validity as the 28th Amendment while upholding the will of the American people.
