Revoke DOGE access, safeguard payments and citizens' privacy

To: Rep. Edwards, Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Asheville, NC

February 5

The unprecedented move by the Trump administration to grant Elon Musk's DOGE group access to the Treasury's payment system is deeply concerning. This system controls the flow of trillions of dollars in payments to millions of Americans, including Social Security beneficiaries and federal employees. Granting DOGE access to this critical financial infrastructure poses a risk to the timely delivery of these essential payments that families rely on. Moreover, the disclosure of sensitive personal and financial data to DOGE is a severe violation of privacy rights. This payment system contains the Social Security numbers, bank account information, and other private data of virtually every American taxpayer. Allowing a private entity headed by Musk, who has significant business ties to China, to access this trove of personal data is an unacceptable breach of public trust. I urge you to take immediate action to revoke DOGE's access to the Treasury payment system and institute robust safeguards to protect the privacy and financial security of the American people. Unilaterally disrupting benefit payments or compromising personal data for political purposes would be an unconscionable abuse of power. It is imperative that you uphold your duty to defend the rights and wellbeing of your constituents.
