Congress must uphold its constitutional authority and prevent further erosion of the rule of law by the executive branch. President Trump has engaged in a disturbing pattern of defying legal limits on his power, effectively nullifying laws passed by Congress. He has blocked asylum seekers from invoking their statutory rights, ordered federal agencies not to enforce duly enacted laws, and improperly removed government officials in violation of legal protections. This rampant lawlessness and disregard for established constraints represents a severe threat to our system of checks and balances. Congress has a responsibility to rein in this abuse of power through its oversight role and legislative actions that reassert its prerogatives. Failure to act would set a dangerous precedent enabling further expansions of unchecked executive authority at the expense of core democratic principles. Decisive congressional action is urgently needed to uphold the rule of law.
