Texans Deserve Freedom, Not Censorship!
To: Rep. Bucy, Sen. Flores
From: A constituent in Austin, TX
October 22
I am writing as a concerned Texan and constituent to urge you to stand against the state directive ordering the removal of Pride crosswalks and similar public art in cities like Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas. This order is not about safety or regulation. It is an attempt to silence free expression and erase symbols of inclusion that make our communities stronger.
Freedom of speech and expression are guaranteed rights, and they do not end where paint meets pavement. Public art is an important way for cities to celebrate diversity and reflect the people who live there. The Pride crosswalks do not endanger anyone. They create visibility, unity, and belonging for the LGBTQ+ community and for all Texans who value equality.
Local governments should have the right to represent their communities without interference from the state. The decision to remove these crosswalks undermines local control, targets marginalized groups, and goes against the values of freedom and individuality that Texas has always claimed to protect.
I ask that you publicly oppose this directive, support Austin’s request for an exemption, and advocate for policies that protect public art and free expression at the city level. Texans deserve leaders who defend inclusion and stand up for the people, not those who erase them.
