Preserve Department of Education for students with disabilities
To: Gov. Little, Sen. Rabe
From: A constituent in Boise, ID
February 5
The proposal to terminate the Department of Education represents an attack on students and families across the nation, especially those with disabilities heavily reliant on the department's enforcement of crucial laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Eliminating the department would strip away critical protections and resources enabling children with disabilities to receive a free and appropriate public education, threatening their fundamental right to access education and exacerbating existing disparities. This misguided legislation must be rejected to avoid unjustly dismantling essential support systems for our most vulnerable students and expanding educational opportunities, not undermining them.
