Forced birth laws are written and passed by men. Men who have the audacity, the awe-inspiring confidence to regulate parts of anatomy they do not have and refuse to learn about. Men who claim expertise in a process they do not comprehend, and could not possibly hope to experience. Men who have often never consulted a woman about the subject.
A person deciding to carry a pregnancy to term is the only one who should be deciding if they carry a pregnancy to term. They might consult men in their lives, but that does not grant any right of decision to those or any other men. Be it doctor, husband, Senator, or priest a man will never be faced with the decision to carry a pregnancy forward and thus has no standing to decide on anyone's behalf.
For this and many other reasons I am writing to end forced birth. A letter every day until the right to reproductive health care is protected by law.
