From the first moment Columbus laid eyes on the Caribbean, white Christians have assumed they know best how others should be living their lives. Coincidentally, the way indigenous people "should" be living always seemed to benefit white Christians.
This is relevant because starting with chattel slavery, continuing into the genocide of Native Americans (including the mass kidnapping of indigenous children), and into criminal medical malpractice such as the Tuskegee experiment "well meaning" white Christians have attempted to control the reproductive freedom of those who do not look like them.
The only way the modern forced birth battle is different is white Christians are now including white people who do not think like them into this "other" group. For this, and many other reasons, I am writing a letter a day until we end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
