Putting laws that force women to give birth does not actually have the result of ending abortions, much the same way that laws requiring abstinence-only sex ed curriculums do not prevent teenagers from being sexually active.
The actual end result is that medical practioners are removed from this medical process. As was well documented prior to the Roe v Wade decision, sketchy, dangerous, and predatory abortion providers filled the vacuum created by removing doctors from a medical procedure.
In essence, laws intended to force women to give birth only force them into dangerous positions and feed criminal enterprise. For this, and many other reasons, I am writing a letter a day until we end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
