An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Defend Constitutional Rights, Denounce Criminalizing Peaceful Protests

19 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

The president's attempts to quash dissent against Tesla are an unprecedented assault on free speech. Declaring boycotts of a private company illegal is a blatant violation of First Amendment rights. Boycotts are a constitutionally protected form of protest and criticism. Threatening criminal repercussions for expressing opposition through boycotts tramples on core civil liberties and democratic principles. This chilling stance could enable the government to criminalize any boycott or protest against corporations it favors, setting a disturbing precedent that curtails freedom of expression and assembly. This represents a dangerous escalation of overreach that demands forceful congressional action to protect fundamental rights from further erosion by the executive branch. Upholding cherished freedoms requires unequivocal opposition to any attempts to outlaw lawful boycotts or peaceful demonstrations against private entities.
