Reproductive freedom is often framed around the right to choose to terminate a pregnancy. However, that's just part of a much wider issue of the state's control.
The right to not give birth, the right to avoid pregnancy in the first place, and the right to have children are all contained inside reproductive rights. Just as the state should not be forcing women to give birth, they should also not be preventing women from giving birth. They're opposite sides of the same coin: allowing legislators to control a person's womb.
The decision to bring another life into the world or not is a deeply personal and complex one that should not be made by legislative bodies. For this and many other reasons, I'm writing a letter a day till we end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
