Oppose excessive fines on undocumented immigrants threatening financial ruin

The administration's plan to impose staggeringly high fines of up to $998 per day on migrants who have received final deportation orders but failed to leave the country is an alarming overreach. Retroactively seeking penalties for up to five years, potentially resulting in fines exceeding $1 million, would place an unconscionable financial burden on vulnerable immigrant communities, many of whom live below the poverty line. This draconian proposal appears rooted more in spreading fear than upholding justice. Furthermore, the consideration of seizing migrants' property if they cannot pay these exorbitant fines is an unacceptable infringement on due process and property rights. Rather than resorting to aggressive tactics that tear families apart and threaten their economic stability, a more humane approach focusing on creating legal pathways for immigration is urgently needed.
