Forced birth laws serve several nefarious purposes. The purpose is to divide a community into "good" and "bad" segments so they can be easily controlled.
By framing abortion as something the state must protect us from, those who would seek it become Others. Others are a key ingredient for fascists. Laws that limit trans rights are another example of using unjust laws to create an outgroup. By making abortion illegal, by demonizing people who want control of their reproduction cycle, the state is fracturing us into controllable segments.
The state should be enabling health care and empowering people to control their own destiny. For this, and many other reasons I am writing a letter a day until we end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
