BLACK LIVES MATTER
As a young white girl, I find myself at a loss for words and confused as to what my stance is supposed to be or what my voice is supposed to do or how I am supposed to react. But that is just the thing, we are in a gray area. Ironically, Nothing is black or white. I am urging you to make the change that seems so obvious, because obviously black lives matter. Obviously black people deserve more, deserve respect. Obviously white America is withholding respect due to the deep seeded oppression in our society that makes conversation around this topic so taboo and uncomfortable. Obviously violence and unrest will not stop until justice is served. Until a change is made. This change unfortunately is controlled by the very government we feel antagonized by, the government who bases its morals off of a corrupt system. The change is controlled by you. The anger of the protesters is fueled by the tipping point that justice must be served to George Floyd, that Derek Chauvin must be charged with first degree murder. This is impossible under our current legal system as prosecutors cannot trust that he will be indicted due to the uncertainty of the legal system. So the justice Floyd is served is the third degree. The “accidents happen.” This is OBVIOUSLY not enough. If his murder was enough to spark a nation-wide revolution, to cause people to risk their lives in the name of freedom, to riot; it is enough to make a change in the way police officers are prosecuted and are given the bias of federal status. I really hope my message reaches those who will listen, to also want to see a change. I am not the most educated on the topic, nor the most qualified to speak on the matter. However, I am extremely disheartened and disgusted with the state of our country and ashamed for what those I am “united” with stand for. no lives matter until BLACK LIVES MATTER!
