Reopening Schools

151 so far! Let’s get to 250 signers!

I have many feelings about school reopening August 6th. We are all aware of the pressure being put on educators to pick up the burden of being childcare for parents trying to get back to work. I understand the immense pressure you must be under to reopen schools but right now we need your leadership and guidance. We need you to decide to go 100% virtual for the safety of our students and teachers. For their physical health and mental health we need a decision to me made now and we need time to prepare. If we go back to school on a hybrid model we will be putting children and teachers in danger and asking them to come to school with zero activities that they enjoy. No lunch break to enjoy with their friends, no pep rallies, no assemblies, no sporting events, no homecoming, no dances, no campaigning and so on. In the classroom they will have no group work and no moving around the room. What will school look like? This will not be bringing normalcy back to our students, it would be the exact opposite. The hybrid model does not make sense. We do not have a plan for subs, absences, covering classes, quarantining, virtual and hybrid teaching at the same time, nor do we have the space for students to be six feet apart. We cannot open August 6th and we cannot go hybrid. Please protect our educators, our students, and their families. Help us prepare and train teachers for a 100% virtual school year.
