I am writing to you to express my outrage over Donald Trump's blatant violation of the Hatch Act by conducting political stunts at the White House during the Republican National Convention. He granted a presidential pardon to an ex-convict in a taped ceremony at the White House. Moreover, he presided over a taped naturalization ceremony there. These acts were done in his official capacity as president and should not have been used as political stunts at his party's convention. Finally, he allowed his wife to give a convention speech from the newly renovated Rose Garden. Trump is a federal employee and thus governed by the law prohibiting federal employees from using government resources to support or conduct a political campaign. While his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, believes that "nobody outside the Beltway cares" about these egregious violations, I can assure you that I, an Indiana resident and your constituent, do care greatly. I demand that you, as my representative in Congress, make a criminal referral to the FBI to investigate these violations of the law. Please respond and advise me of how you intend to proceed with these criminal referrals. Please DO NOT respond with a form letter or email spouting political platitudes or propaganda. I am asking you to show me, an Indiana voter whom you represent, that you agree no one is above the law, not even Donald Trump.
