As your constituent, I am asking you to show your vocal, continual, and genuine support for the Black Lives Matter movement. I am asking you to use your power to ensure that police officers in our country do not act as judge, jury, and executioner, oftentimes with little to no punishment or ramifications for their violently racist and homicidal actions. There is blood on the hands of every single person in a position of power who has not done everything they can to protect Black people in this country and around the world.
As Americans, it is our job to acknowledge and learn from our history, however uncomfortable that history may be. This is a country built upon slavery and white supremacy, and the least you can do as a person benefiting from these horrible systems is try your best to make a change. I urge you to do more, not just because white constituents like myself are asking you to do so, but because Black peopleâs lives, safety, and futures matter. Silence is violence.
