"This is a lifetime appointment that could reshape the Supreme Court for generations, and I believe the best thing for the country is to trust the American people to weigh in. Instead of having a nomination fight in this partisan election-year environment, I believe awaiting the result of the election will give the nominee more legitimacy and better preserve the Court's credibility as an institution." Those are Senator Portman's words from 2016 regarding Merrick Garland. To reject them now and proceed with a SCOTUS nominee means that Senator Portman is a hypocrite of the highest order intent on only grabbing power. And since our Declaration of Independence states that gov't derives its just powers from the CONSENT of the governed, I think it's valuable to point out that I do not consent to the unjust application of your powers in governing. Rather, I dissent.
