Don't Appoint Supreme Court Justice Until After the Election

72 so far! Let’s get to 100 signers!

Dear Senators, It is a sad day in the country with the recent news of Justice Ginsburg's passing. She was a beacon for progress and equality in this country and having her on the Supreme Court instilled a sense of stability that has been much needed in these past years. I am writing to urge you and your fellow senators to refuse the appointing of a new justice to the Supreme Court until after the outcomes of the 2020 elections, be it a new president or President Trump that is sworn in. I was first able to vote in 2016 and I remember how Mitch McConnell prevented the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice during President Obama's last year under the argument that the election should serve as a way for the people to decide who to appoint. As such, the seat sat until after the election when President Trump appointed his first pick. Democrats in the House and Senate should not allow McConnell to step back on his word and must hold him accountable. Pushing through a last minute justice would not reflect the will of the people as he once argued. I have grown up hearing the phrase "They go low, we go high," but we must not let a righteous attitude risk the future of our democracy. The legacy of Justice Ginsburg must be upheld. I wish you and your family well during these trying times and hope that we can all gather this election and vote to let our voice be heard. Until then, you and the other elected officials are our voice in Washington and we need you to stand strong and defend the Supreme Court. Respectfully, David
