Save the Workers of Restaurants, Bars, and Shops

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

As your constituent here in Durham, NC I can tell you a lot about what I love about my city and my country, but the most important qualities and places and characteristics would be nothing—nonexistent—without the employees of the restaurants and bars and shops in my community. The kind and wonderful people who work hourly wage and tipped jobs in Durham make our culture what it is, unique and friendly enough to be profiled in national publications as a fun, tasty, and vibrant place. Either by choice or edict, right now these hourly/tipped wage employees are sacrificing their very livelihoods for our safety—yours and mine. They may be unpaid for weeks, to help prevent a more rapid spread of Covid-19 and flatten the curve. They cannot work from home, they cannot work at all. ANY aid or relief bills MUST include money that immediately assists all workers on the front lines of retail, bars, and restaurants. Going forward, we must take better care to ensure our entire workforce is able to make a living wage, have paid sick time, and access to healthcare. For now, please act to assist them in this crisis.
