An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures

NY NEEDS Law Enforcement Accountability

9 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I encourage you to follow your fellow democratic leaders in CO and create a Law Enforcement Accountability act NOW. Now is this the time to channel momentum into meaningful reform when it comes to police accountability and transparency. New Yorkers need a bill that would appoint the State Attorney General to independently investigate use of force cases that result in death or serious bodily injuries, and removes immunity from prosecution for officers. This bill should also include the following; - Prevent officers from finding work at a neighboring department if they’re fired - Require racial profiling data to be collected for the purpose of improving department tactics - Requires all law enforcement to use body cameras & be held accountable for when they are turned off The injustice for Black and POC Americans has gone on too long and the time to act is NOW.
